Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (Subclass 482)

This visa enables employers to address work deficiencies by bringing in skilled workers where bosses can’t source an appropriately Australian skilled laborer.

Short- term stream

This visa enables employers to address work deficiencies by bringing in skilled workers where bosses can’t source an appropriately Australian skilled laborer.

This visa permits you: –

  • Work in Australia for up to 2 years or up to 4 years if an International Trade Obligation (ITO) applies. Holders of Hong Kong passport may reside up to 5 years.
  • Travel to and from Australia as many times as applicant wish while the visa is valid.
  • Apply for permanent residence (If eligible)

My Eligibility Criteria:

  • Be nominated to work in an occupation on the list of eligible short-term skilled occupations.
  • You need to have a minimum of 2 years relevant work experience in your nominated occupation or a related field
  • Have a relevant skills assessment (if required)
  • You must meet English Language Proficiency (minimum standard) unless exempt.
  • Work only for your sponsor associated entity, unless exempt.
  • Obligations: – It is necessary that you and your family abide by all laws of Australian Government.
  • There is no  requirement of age for this visa.
  • Applicant must meet the Health and Character needs.

Place to Apply from: Usually you can be inshore or offshore when you apply, but not in immigration clearance.

 However, you must be outside Australia if all the following apply:

  • you have held more than one TSS visa in the Short-term stream
  • you hold a TSS visa in the Short-term stream and you were in Australia when you applied for that visa
  • applying outside Australia is not inconsistent with an ITO

If you are applying in Australia, you must hold:

  1. a substantive visa, or
  2. A Bridging Visa A, B or C.

Stay Time: This is a temporary Visa.

Applicant can stay up to 2 to 4 years if an International Trade Obligation (ITO) applies. Holders of Hong Kong passport may reside up to 5 years.

Visa Cost:

  • Main Applicant and for each dependent 18 years and above: From AUD1,265
  • Each dependent under18 years: AUD320
  • Other costs include are those of health checks, police certificates and biometrics.

Processing times

  • 75% of applications: 89 days
  • 90% of applications: 5 months

Process

  • Employer applies to be a sponsor
    • Employer is then given approval to be a sponsor.
    • Employer nominates you for a occupation (skilled).
    • Applicant then applies for the visa.
    • Visa Outcome.

Visa label: – Your visa will be digitally linked to your passport

You must start work within 90 days of:

  1. arriving in Australia, if you were outside Australia when the visa was granted
  2. receiving your visa, if you were in Australia when the visa was granted

You must not stop working for more than 60 consecutive days.

Unless an exemption applies, you can only work:

  • for the business that nominated you, if your visa was granted in the Labour agreement stream
  • for the business that nominated you or an associated entity, if your visa was granted in Medium or Short-term stream and your sponsor is an Australian business
  • for the business that nominated you, if your visa was granted in Medium or Short-term stream and your sponsor is an overseas business

You can work for other businesses if:

  • the occupation is specified by the minister in an instrument
  • your employment is ending, and you are serving out a notice period

If you want to change your employer, your new proposed employer must get a nomination approved before you can start work for them.

Licenses, registrations and memberships

If it is necessary to have a licence, registration or membership to do the job Australian government  granted you the visa to do you must hold that licence, registration or membership and comply with its provisions.

If it is illegal to do the job you were granted the visa to do without a licence, registration or membership, you must not work. You must not do work that is inconsistent with the licence, registration or membership.

If you were outside Australia when the visa was granted, you must hold the mandatory licence, registration or membership within 90 days of arriving in Australia. If you were in Australia when the visa was granted, you must hold the mandatory licence, registration or membership within 90 days of Australian government granting the visa.

You must let Australian government know in writing as soon as you can if:

  • you applied for the licence, registration or membership and were refused, or
  • the licence, registration or membership is ends or is cancelled or revoked

Conditions for Short- Term stream Visa

8303Not be Disruptive

Applicant must not be engaged in activities disruptive to, or violence threatening harm to, the Australian community or group within the Australian community.

8501- Maintain adequate health insurance

Applicant need to have and maintain adequate health insurance for the whole of your stay in Australia.

8607Must only work in Nominated Occupation

You must work only in the occupation nominated in your most recent Subclass 482 (Temporary Skill Shortage) visa application. You cannot work in a different occupation unless you apply for and are granted a new Temporary Skill Shortage visa.

Medium term stream

This visa permits you: –

  • Work in Australia for up to 4 years or up to 5 years if you are Holder of Hong Kong passport.
  • To enroll in study course without government support.
  • Travel to and from Australia as many times as applicant wish while the visa is valid.
  • Apply for permanent residence (If eligible)

  • You need to have a minimum of 2 years relevant work experience in your nominated occupation or a related field
  • Have a relevant skills assessment (if required)
  • You must meet English Language Proficiency (minimum standard) unless exempt.
  • Work only for your sponsor associated entity, unless exempt
  • It is necessary that you and your family abide by all laws of Australian Government.
  • You have to start your employment within the period of 90 days of:
  • Entry to Australia (if the visa was granted while offshore).
  • The grant date of visa (if the visa was granted while you are inshore).

Process

This visa is for skilled workers nominated by employers having Labour Agreement.

Labour agreements are between Employers and the Australian Government.

This visa permits you: –

  • Work in Australia for up to 4 years or up to 5 years if you are Holder of Hong Kong passport.
  • To enroll in study course without government support.
  • Travel to and from Australia as many times as applicant wish while the visa is valid.
  • Apply for permanent residence (If eligible)
